·        Raoul Teilhet Program –Sponsor California Federation of Teachers CTF offers a $1,000 and $3,000 scholarships to attending seniors and continuing college students of CFT members who plan to attend or are currently attending two or four year institutions. National Labor College Scholarship Program

Burger King Scholarship - February 2, 2009

Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, work part-time (15 to 40 hours per week), be actively involved in community service activities, and demonstrate financial need. Zonta YWPA Scholarship - Deadline:  February 6, 2009
Student must be pre-university or pre-college between the ages of 16-20 and show evidence of volunteering and leadership. Student must also show evidence of dedication to the advancing status of women worldwide.  The award is $1,000 and you may apply at http://www.zontacv.org

Phi Delta Kappa Buenaventura Chapter - Deadline: February 17, 2008
Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to 2 students who are intending to pursue a career in public education.  Applicants must be high school seniors with an expressed interest in becoming a public school educator. 

The Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship - Deadline: February 20, 2009
Graduating high school seniors planning to attend college in the US who has promoted vegetarianism in his/her school and or community. Applicants will be judged on having shown compassion, courage, and a strong commitment to promoting a peaceful world through a vegetarian diet/lifestyle. Two awards of $5,000 will be given. 

California Federation of republican Women, Charlotte Mousel ScholarshipDeadline: Feb 24, 2009
The California Federation of Republican Women, Southern Division, Charlotte Mousel Scholarship is awarded to assist graduating high school seniors who demonstrate their ability to think constructively in matters affecting our government.  Awards in the amount of $1,200.00 (1st place) and $800 (2nd place) will be based on the following:  scholastic achievement, school activities, community evolvement, political activities, general appearance of the application, and construction thought demonstrated in an essay.

Sons of Italy Western Foundation AND Order Sons of Italy in America-Grand Lodge of California - Deadline: February 29, 2009

2009-2010 California Strawberry Grower’s Scholarship Fund - Deadline: March 13, 2009.
The California Strawberry Commission is pleased to announce the launch of the 2009 California Strawberry Growers Scholarship Program. This program benefits graduating high school seniors who are children of strawberry farm workers. Cabrillo Civic Club of San Luis Obispo #15 - Deadline: March 15, 2009
This scholarship is available to students of Portuguese (mothers or fathers side) ancestry who enroll in an accredited US College or University.  You must have a maintained 3.5 GPA, be a graduating senior, have participated in at least 3 extra- curricular activities while in high school, and meet all requirements set down by an accredited university or college of the student’s choice.

Commander William J. Coffey Memorial Scholarship - Deadline: March 20, 2009
This scholarship was established to provide a scholarship fund and award program to encourage and support the study of science, engineering, and technology at college and universities in the local area.  The Mugu Crow’s Club currently supports two $1,000 scholarship awards.  One award is provided to a state, university, Ventura College, or Oxnard College recipient and the other is provided to a local graduating senior high school recipient planning to pursue a technical degree.  This scholarship needs to be in Ms. Yslas hands March 15, 2009,   so she may turn it into the committee.

Ventura County Chinese-American Association (VCCAA) - Deadline: March 30, 2009
Students must be a college bound and a senior on February 1, 2009, at any high school within Ventura County. Students MUST write 2 essays. One essay is  written on “What I am doing now and what I am going to do seven years from now.” The second essay is  “Describing what kind of role you have played in promoting the understanding of Chinese cultural heritage and/or suggestion to VCCAA that it can play to improve the harmony between ethnic groups in a multicultural community.”

 

 Tzu Chi Scholars 2008 - Deadline: March 31, 2009
Tzu Chi Scholars are selected on the bases if their financial need, academic achievement, and community involvement. Each scholar will be awarded a total of $1,000. 

Jack Hledik Memorial Scholarship - Deadline: March 31, 2009 

The Jacobs Technology Naval Systems Group Jack Hledik Memorial Scholarships have been established to recognize and reward students in the top tier of their class. They are students who embody Naval Systems Group’s commitment to education. A $1000.00 scholarship will be awarded in the Ridgecrest , California area and a $1000.00 scholarship will be awarded in the Ventura County, California area.

 

Japanese American Citizens League Ventura County Chapter - Deadline: April 1, 2008
JACL is available to any American of Japanese or part-Japanese ancestry living or attending school in Ventura County and meet the requirements.          

Telesis Community Credit Union and the Telesis Community Non Profit Trust - Deadline: April 1, 2009
Applicants must be completing their senior year in a school located in Los Angeles County, Ventura County, or in selected areas in Contra Costa County. The students must be in good standing with their school and may not be on disciplinary or academic probation. Student will turn in a resume of community service activity as well as write two essays.

VETERANS FOR PEACE - Deadline: April 1, 2009
$500 scholarships checks will be made available to students in the Ventura Unified School District.  There are four contest selections for you to choose from. Write an essay, Write a poem, create a poster, or create a song on “How to Promote Peace”.

Gary James Memorial Scholarship - Deadline: April 7, 2009
This scholarship is open to ALL senior athletes who will be going to college or a university next school year. Student must have earned a Varsity Letter in their senior year and be in good standing. The award is in the amount of $500.00, has a short application with a short essay.

Ventura Downtown Lions Club - Deadline: April 10, 2009
The applicant must meet the following criteria: be a full-time high school student, must return a fully completed application by April 11, 2008, must show financial need, must enroll in a post secondary institution and must demonstrate areas of serving his/her community during high school years.

NAWIC National Association of Women in Construction Ventura-Oxnard #139 - Deadline: April 10, 2009
The Ventura-Oxnard Chapter of The National Association of Women in Construction is offering scholarship funds to students in our local educational institutions who may be interested in pursuing careers in the construction industry. Our scholarships are available to all students, regardless of gender, in any area related to the construction industry. In past years, scholarships have been awarded to students in architecture, construction management, trades and mechanical engineering.

Catching the Dream-Native American Scholarship Fund - Deadline: April 15, 2009
Three scholarships are offered through this fund. Students must be ½ or more degree American Indian and be enrolled member if a U.S. tribe, must be a graduating high school senior planning to pursue a BA or higher at a U.S. college or university on a full time bad=sis. Ventura County Legal Professionals Association - Deadline: April 25, 2009
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older on the date of application or a senior in high school and also must be a resident of Ventura County on the date of application.  The amount of the scholarship (s) to be awarded will be Category 1: $500 and Category 2: up to $1,000.

Buena Senior Men’s Golf Club - Deadline:  May 6, 2008
Buenaventura Senior Men’s Golf Club is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a senior boy or girl who is actively participating in your high school’s gold program and plans to attend a community college or a four year university. Applications maybe be obtained in the College & Career Center, from your golf coach. There are 2 scholarships available, one for a male, and one for a female.  

Union Leaders of the Future Scholarship Program - Deadline: May 30, 2009

Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund  Deadline: Applications Accepted Year Round
Graduating high school Seniors are eligible if they are the dependent child of an active duty service member who was killed or permanently disabled (100% rating) as the result if an operational mission or training accident, or who is currently certified ads POW or MIA. Writers/Illustrators of the Future Contest - This contest is held quarterly

Hispanic College Fund Scholarships
Minimum eligibility criteria for all HCF Programs: Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher; must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; must be studying full-time in the U.S. or through a U.S. based study abroad program.  To apply go to http://scholarships.hispanicfund.org.  Register with HCF online.  Your information will be matched with scholarships programs that you can apply for.  Apply to all of the programs on your list.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund - Deadlines vary, so check often 
Awards scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 in support of Hispanics in higher education.  Requirements for all HSF scholarships are:  must be of Hispanic heritage; be a US Citizen or permanent resident; minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and must have applied for federal financial aid (FAFSA). Military Scholarships
Various branches of the Armed Services offer scholarships through college ROTC programs. These programs offer officer training programs while a student receives a college education and requires military service upon graduation. Ventura Promise is that ALL recent Ventura County high school graduates , regardless of family income, will have part of their Enrollment, Health, Student Center, ASB Card, and Registration fees covered during their first year if attendance at Ventura College.

National Scholarship Competition for high school seniors and older graduates who demonstrate and exceptional talent and interest in fashion Design, Visual Communications, Interior Design, Digital Media, Fashion Merchandising or Graphic Design. National CO-Op Scholarship Program Deadline - February 15, 2009
Students may apply for a $6,000 scholarship if they are accepted to and plan to attend one of the following colleges:  Drexel University, John & Wales University, Kettering University, C. W. Post Campus of Long Island University, Northeastern University, Pace University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo, or Wentworth Institute of Technology. The Leadership Award Alumni Scholarship
A one-year merit based scholarship of $1,500 for freshman Fall of 2009 students. Girls Going Places - Deadline: Feb. 27, 2009  

The Guardian Life Insurance Company’s annual initiative designed to reward enterprising and community-minded girls ages 12 – 18. Guardian grants cash prizes to girls who demonstrate budding entrepreneurship; are taking first steps toward financial independence; and making a difference in their schools and communities. 1st Place - $10,000, second place $5,000, third place $3,000, and twelve $1,000 finalist prizes- for a total of $30,000.

Ayn Rand Essay Contest for 9th and 10th graders - Deadline: March 20, 2009

Holocaust Remembrance Essay Contest - Deadline: April 30, 2009
This contest is for high school students in grades 9-12 and must be residents of either the United States or Mexico. Awards range from $300-$10,000. Students responding to this year’s writing contest should study the Holocaust and then, in an essay of no more than 1,200 words:

(a) analyze why it is vital that the remembrance, history and lessons of the Holocaust be passed to new generations; and

(b) suggest what you, as students, can do to combat and prevent prejudice, discrimination and violence in our world today.
